MID SUSSEX MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Music Festival was held in November at Burgess Hill. I enter my pupils, my training band Evolution Brass plus my brass groups from the School.

November 2014

Here we are again for another busy weekend.  Evolution Brass took first place in the large ensembles and all three of my school brass groups obtained places.  I was especially proud of Little Bellz.  Four girls all under 12, one only 6 years old.  They beat the older group.

Lots of solos and duets on the Sunday again receiving placings and good comments across the board.  Well done to everyone.

November 2013

Another busy weekend for everyone.  Evolution Brass entered the large ensembles along with my school brass groups entering the small ensembles.  All groups gained places in the results which was fantastic.

Many solos and duets on the Sunday again, most obtaining places and all receiving fantastic comments and marks.

November 2012

Saturday morning was a busy one for me, dashing between groups, warming and tuning up.  My junior brass group were on in the first younger groups section.  They played wonderfully and the audience especially enjoyed the last piece where the players shouted and stamped about their 'favourite breakfast'  They received a highly commended.  Evolution brass were first in the open large ensembles section and made an excellent job of the four Beatles pieces.  A lot of nerves but we got through with good dynamics and some nice tuneful playing.  Precious Metalz was next and did themselves proud with a trio of Blues pieces.  After the Mid Sussex Brass Band performed it was time for the results.  The adjudicator liked Evolution Brass best with some lovely comments about dynamics etc.  Precious Metalz came second.

Sunday was equally as successful with many of my pupils playing well in the solos and duet classes.  The day was rounded off lovely for me by Hannah Labus, her dad and me making up a euphonium trio and winning the overal cup for best ensemble along with receiving a very rare 'outstanding' award.

Well done to everyone who entered.

November 2011

Precious Metalz, the newly named Senior Brass Group from the school were up against Mid Sussex Youth Brass Band who have entered a few times before and usually won. We made sure we put all the dynamics in and the girls gave a very accurate and tight performance. Gaining first place the group were photographed for the Mid Sussex Times. My daughter Amy, who has been playing for just two months performed in the duet section with her Dad and gained a merit. The solos on Sunday saw Charlotte, Eleanor and Jasmine give very competent performances with wonderful dynamics and style. Brian was the last of my pupils to take part, receiving very complimentary remarks regarding his rendition of Reflections, on Euphonium, in the Adult Learner class. Well done to all who entered and watch out next year when I intend getting a lot more to play including Evolution Brass!!
